This morning at 4:18AM my journey began. Waking up proved to be difficult after about an hour of sleep, but I threw myself into the shower and somehow got to Tiffany’s around 5:10AM. We ate some cereal, packed the car, and drove eight hours north-bound! I am now sitting by my bed in a cabin just south of Lake Tahoe. The sky is clear, there’s snow everywhere, and everywhere I look is nature’s seductive stare just waiting for me to capture it on camera. If you can’t tell, I am super excited. The next five days will be amazing, I’m sure of it.

The cabin is beautiful – just what comes to mind when you think about cozy winter cabins. Big screen TV, small yet roomy, very clean, warm, Nintendo Wii, internet, etcetera. As I write this I get to enjoy the smell of spaghetti being cooked just below me. Just me and the Syariffs. This is such a privilege to be here and I’m so thankful. This is going to be fun. Stay tuned for more exciting blog entries

Last night I went up to Mt. High with my good friend Faye, Ben, and Faye’s friend Jason for a ski/snowboard adventure! There was about 3 inches of snowfall the night before and they had snow blowers all over the place. The entire drive up I was debating on whether I should ski or snowboard. I hadn’t been to the snow in over 3 years so I was worried I’d have to re-learn everything. The first run of the night was the steepest run which made me thankful for choosing skis. I could count on my hand how many times I’ve snowboarded, but I’ve been skiing since I was a wee lad. It was extremely icy and very packed. I got comfortable enough to go up some ramps (I got a tiny bit of air!) and I didn’t fall once. I was being overcautious because I’m planning to go to Tahoe all weekend – it would suck if I hurt myself before.

Faye is an amazing snowboarder! She was keeping up with me on skis. We were bookin’ it down that mountain. Nobody got too hurt, which I’m glad about. At one point Faye and I were on the ski lift and it was moving ridiculously slow until it stopped for what seemed to be a long time. One of the sketchiest ski lifts I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying. The snow was being swept up by the wind (and air blowers) causing a blizzard effect. We could barely see the cart right in front of us. It was the same story on the express lift but at least it went by a lot quicker. Jason disappeared after the first five minutes of skiing. Ben decided that “the mountain must have claimed him.” I bought a foot-long Subway sandwich on the drive up which proved to be a perfect choice since I got to eat the second half on the way down and the whole time I was skiing the sandwich was refrigerated by the weather.

Tomorrow is my Christmas due to my impending Tahoe adventure. I’m excited to eat Michelle’s mom’s sloppy joe recipe and open presents! I hope I get some money because aliens know how tight on keesh I am right now… I’m really hoping to find a cheap TAO ticket because all my friends are going. I didn’t buy my ticket sooner because the lineup isn’t what I was hoping, but I don’t have any plans for NYE yet… Well, it’s 4:43am I’m gonna sleep now. Good night!

Holidays are upon us! The air is chilly, Christmas lights are up, and I’ve been eating lots of Christmas tree shaped cookies! Last night I got to hang out with an old friend Dylan who’s down from San Francisco. I knew him in Middle School back in the day. I feel so old nowadays… 22 years of life. Soon i’ll be as old as Mrs. Murphy was… That’s a scary thought. I’m afraid to take showers now.

Today will be uber fun! I’m hanging out with Michelle and possibly Chantra? I hope so… I haven’t seen that water coyote in quite a while. Christmas is four days away. We have some Santa pictures to get done! Tarantulas are cool.

Tomorrow, I will be enjoying the local snow – night skiing for the first time ever. I’m so excited! I just hope I can afford all the events I have planned so far… I’m pretty sure i’ll be scrounging for pennies by the end of this break. I’m definitely looking forward to that. On Wednesday my mother plans to give me a dinner and she asked what kind of food we should eat. I told her Sloppy Joe’s. Interestingly enough, she agreed. I get to eat Michelle’s mother’s infamous messy burgers! Also excited about that. I will be posting back here as I experience these planned events throughout the week.

Like most successful nerds, organization is a high priority in my life. This website is (or will be) my attempt to keep my work, art, thoughts, and files all in one globally accessible place. Myself excluded, Time quite possibly could be the only spectator to see this through to the end – which could be right after I finish typing this first blog for all I know (hence my title [not to mention I love that song...]). If you haven’t already noticed, my writing style is a little different than most. I’ve decided to write this blog as if I was the only one who would ever read it again (which, as I’ve mentioned, is a probability). I think it helps bring my personality into my writing which I value as a “good” thing. I have also decided to keep a personal blog to record events for future reference. If you don’t care to read about personal affairs, then do yourself a favor and don’t continue to the next paragraph. Soon, this website will have full functionality.

Today I got to sleep in for the first time since I returned home from my Hawaiian excursion in June. Most of my summer was dedicated to finding a job and I became an active member of the local indie/alternative music scene. I ended up finding an after-school ceramics teaching position with a lovely South African lady named Aviva. I love working with the children and, to my surprise, I also enjoy working with clay! So much so that I’ve enrolled in a spring ceramics class at OCC. Recently, I started working as a programmer for a website company called TwinCore Studios with Ben (a friend of mine) and I’m loving it.

I miss SCUBA diving… I haven’t been since March of this year. I almost had a chance to dive in Catalina with David and his family, but the weather must have had a grudge against me. Luckily I have plans to finish my Advanced Open Water certification with Faye this summer in Mexico! On the note of traveling – I’m going to Tahoe to ski with Tiffany and her family for Christmas this year! So exciting that I get happy just thinking about it. I haven’t been to the snow in over 2 years! I’m sad that I won’t be able to spend Christmas day (or eve, for that matter) with my family, but I don’t want to live life asking “What if…?”. I can’t pass up an opportunity like that.

My friend Robert went home for the holiday break and offered to let me stay in his room since I’ve been sleeping in my parents living room. I am so thankful because I’m finally able to work without too many interruptions and I can sleep in which is nice because I work best at night (hence why this is being written at 3:40 am).

Update: While I was writing this blog, Brittany Murphy was alive. I wish I could say the same thing as I’m writing this update.
